# Writing an Effective Ministry Update

This article offers practical guidance on choosing a post type, deciding what to share, and finding a posting rhythm that lasts.

## Choosing a post type

CordLine offers three kinds of posts, so your supporters know how to respond:

- **Field Update** — everyday news about your life and ministry.
- **Prayer Request** — something specific you'd like your supporters to pray for.
- **Praise Report** — an answered prayer or a moment of good news to celebrate.

Choosing the right type isn't just labeling — it tells your supporters what kind of response you're looking for. See our article on how to write your first post for the basics of posting.

## Deciding what to share

You don't need a big milestone to post. Some of the most connecting updates are small:

- A moment from your week — a conversation, a meal, a small win.
- What you're praying about right now.
- A photo that shows a piece of daily life supporters wouldn't otherwise see.

## Formatting a longer update

For a longer story, break it into short paragraphs rather than one dense block — supporters are often reading on a phone, sometimes on a slow connection. A photo partway through can give the eye a place to rest.

## Choosing a length

There's no required length. A few honest sentences are often better than a long, formal newsletter — supporters follow you because they care about you, not because they expect a polished report. Save the longer stories for when you have the time and something worth telling at length.

## Finding a sustainable rhythm

- **There's no posting schedule to keep.** Post when you have something to share, not on a timer.
- **Little and often beats long and rare.** A short update every couple of weeks keeps supporters closer than a long one every few months.
- **If you're overwhelmed, that's worth sharing too.** Supporters often want to walk with you through the hard seasons, not just the highlight reel.
